OPEN

Hook/ Icebreaker/ Recap

3 min

  • Start with a brief overview of the Cold War era to set the context. Ask students to share one fact they know about the Berlin Wall in the chat.

  • Zoom Chat

Agenda

2 min

  • Outline the lesson’s objectives: understanding the reasons behind the construction of the Berlin Wall and its consequences. Introduce the use of the 5W2H method for the presentation.

  • Google slides

PROCESS

Activate

2 min

  • Introduce the Agile GameShifting board to clarify the behaviour and intent of the lesson. Explain the rules and how they will guide the lesson's flow.

  • Google Slide

Individual Work

23 min

  • Divide the class into groups, assigning each a specific aspect of the 5W2H method (Who, What, Where, When, Why, How, How Much/Many) related to the Berlin Wall. Students research and gather information in breakout rooms using a shared Google Slides document.

  • Breakout rooms in Zoom

  • Google slide (with 5W2H structure set up)

  • Add resources to check out for students in each 5W2H section, to facilitate information gathering (starting point)

Content

12 min

  • Students present their findings to the class, completing the 5W2H analysis.

  • The teachers reflect on their presentation and correct it if needed so students have the correct historical background on the Berlin Wall. The teacher can do that by adding notes to each slide (enlarge the note section and increase the font so students can read it while listening to the presentation).

  • Google Slides & Notes in slides

CLOSE

Summary

1 min

  • Summarize the key points about the Berlin Wall, emphasizing its role in the Cold War.

Exit Ticket

7 min

  • Conclude with a Kahoot quiz to assess understanding of the Berlin Wall and its historical context.

  • Kahoot link in zoom chat

Additional Notes:

  • Ensure active facilitation during group work, guiding students to relevant information based on their assigned 5W2H aspect.

  • Encourage critical thinking and collaboration among students as they develop their presentations.

  • Follow up with additional resources or a summary email to further explore the topic.
